HISTORY AND ORIGIN OF LADY KHATUN MARIUM SCHOOLThe School, which originally began as a marine school, by Late Haji Ismail at Worli in 1910; for the sons and orphans of seafarers, found its permanent footing when the Governing Council decided to restart the Primary School naming it after Lady Khatun Marium Yusuf, in 1990. Lady Khatun Marium School, popularly known as LKM School, exists because of the enthusiasm of two staff’s wives who came up with the idea of teaching campus children English. Students were not difficult to find. Classes started in the Bullock Cart Canteen. Unexpectedly village children did not want to be left out and slowly trickled in day by day until whole class room was filled to its maximum. Suddenly there was an urgent need for an English School in the isolated area of Nhava. Therefore a Pre-primary school was built on an abandoned plinth, containing four classrooms, with students of various ages, and then there was no looking back. During this period the school has grown from a Pre- primary school to a complete senior secondary school. In 2000, the School was affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) up to Class X. Affiliation No. 1130041 and School Code is 06825. Over the years the students have steadily improved their performance and now have 100% results every year with many getting distinctions. Every year is a surprise, with their budding talent and abilities to win the Championship Trophy at the CBSE Cluster IX Athletic Meet or the Lalithakala Centre for Visual Arts Trophy. This achievement would not be possible without the effort and hard work from the Principals, staff and students- past and present. From year to year LKM School has upgraded the equipment and expanded the classrooms to help accommodate more and more students. It is always a great delight to see the alumni return, having made a success of their lives! They continue to be the best ambassadors of the school. The Management has also provided adequate facilities for the School children to join the various Pre Sea and other Courses run by Training Ship Rahaman on preferential basis. Employment opportunities have also been provided within the campus to selected students who are unable to pursue further studies. The availability of athletic ground in the immediate vicinity of the campus has given a fillip to the school sporting talent.
